The city and county of Oxfordshire is a wonderfully picturesque area. If you are passionate about fly fishing, there are several areas around Oxford and the Cotswolds that will allow you to have hours of peaceful enjoyment. This short guide will help you get started with fly fishing in the Oxford area.

Farmoor Fly Fishing

One of the most well respected fly fishing clubs of Oxfordshire is the Farmoor Fly Fishing Club. This club was started in order to bring a high quality club in picturesque surroundings to the county of Oxfordshire at reasonable prices. The club is set on the Farmoor reservoirs and it also owns a 25 acre lake which is called Darlow Water. This is situated in Hardwick, Oxfordshire. At Darlow Water you are able to enjoy both bank and boat fly fishing with the lake containing Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout and Blue Trout. The club also provides access to a large area of the River Windrush which is next to the Darlow Water lake.

The lodge at the Farmoor club provides comfortable accommodation for a days fishing. There is also access to 4 boats.

Another great place to consider is Westlake Fly Fishing which also runs a fly fishing school. It is located in Lockinge Fishery which is near Wantage in Oxfordshire. The fishery has nine lakes, which are interconnected by a stream. It is set in one and a half miles of parkland. This is the perfect setting to have a day away fishing or if you are a beginner, you can choose to have a lesson. The fishery is located at the foot of the historic Ridgeway and provides easy access to the Berkshire Downs.

This fishery is able to cater for all types of fly fishing, and also runs courses in trout fishing, salmon fishing, saltwater fishing as well as spey casting and double hall. The fishery is run by a qualified angler who is able to teach.

Salford Trout Lakes

Another excellent place to go fly fishing when in Oxfordshire is Salford Trout Lakes in the wonderful Cotswolds. The lakes are particularly welcome to day visitors and no on going membership is required. 

Salford Lakes is privately owned and has two lakes which are spring fed. There are a total of 8 acres of water set in park land. The lakes are 43 years old and have been in the same family for all of this time. Due to its location, the lakes are a wonderful habitat for a wonderful plant, bird, fly and insect existence. This provides excellent, challenging fishing for the Tiger Trout, Blue Trout, Rainbow Trout and Brown Trout that live in the lakes.
