Uber is set to launch flying taxis in Texas and Dubai by 2020, Jeff Holden has told everyone at the Uber Elevate Summit.

Using smaller electrical VTOL (Vertical Take-off and Landing) aircraft, Uber will be asking $1.32 per mile (about £1.03).

This price is actully higher than booking an UberX cab. However, Uber says the cost will come down over time so much that'll it will one day be less expensive to use Uber's flying taxi service than to run a car.

Uber said its plans are designed to enable “rapid reliable transport between suburbs and cities”. Daily long-distance commutes in urban areas with heavey traffic and not served by existing infrastructure would be the first to use the aircraft.

More than 12 companies are working on the exciting project, including vehicle charging station maker Chargepoint, which will develop an exclusive charger for the network of Uber aircraft.
